Baseball Opens 2026 Season with Road Series Sweep at West Hills Coalinga
The LA Pierce College baseball team strongly opened the 2026 season, sweeping a two-game road series against West Hills Coalinga to start the year with a 2-0 record.
Pierce rallied late in both contests, securing wins of 5–3 on Friday and 8–6 on Saturday.
Game 1: Pierce 5, Coalinga 3 (Jan. 23)
After trailing 2–0 through six innings, Pierce broke through in the seventh with a four-run rally that turned the game in its favor.
With the bases loaded, Anthony Castro delivered the decisive blow, ripping a bases-clearing triple to give the Brahmas a 3–2 lead. Pierce added another run later in the inning, and an insurance run in the ninth helped seal the victory. On the mound, Brayden Briscoe earned the season-opening win, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out eight over seven innings. Dylan Adams closed the door in the ninth, striking out three to secure the save.
Game 2: Pierce 8, Coalinga 6 (Jan. 24)
Pierce showed its resilience again on Saturday, overcoming multiple deficits before pulling away late.
Trailing 4–2 entering the eighth, the Brahmas erupted for a four-run inning, highlighted by Carlos Macias, who drove in three runs on the day, including a clutch two-run triple that put Pierce ahead for good. The Brahmas added another run in the ninth to create breathing room.
Macias finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs, while Andrew Chaves and Dylan Simon also contributed key hits. Pierce's pitching combined to hold Coalinga scoreless in the eighth before closing out the win despite a late push.
With the sweep, Pierce opens the 2026 campaign undefeated and showed depth on both sides of the ball, rallying late in both games and getting contributions throughout the lineup and pitching staff.
The Brahmas will look to carry that momentum forward as nonconference play continues.
