Brahmas Extend Winning Streak to 14 With Road Win Over Santa Barbara
The LA Pierce baseball team continued its strong run on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Santa Barbara 8-5 on the road to extend its winning streak to 14 games.
With the win, the Brahmas improved to 21-10 overall and 12-4 in conference play as they opened an important conference series with a victory away from home.
Pierce got on the board in the second inning when Matteo Rodriguez lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Ethan Granillo for the game's first run.
The Brahmas added to the lead in the third inning behind JJ Fagfoomsintu. After Carlos Macias singled to begin the inning, Fagfoomsintu drove a two-run home run over the fence to put Pierce ahead 3-0. It was his lone hit of the day, but he finished with two RBI and scored once.
Santa Barbara responded with two runs in the bottom half of the third and later tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning. Pierce regained the lead for good in the eighth.
Isaiah Chaves opened the inning with a single, and Rodriguez followed with a hit of his own. Dylan Simon then reached on a fielder's choice that turned into an error, allowing both runners to score and giving the Brahmas a 6-4 lead. Santa Barbara answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Pierce once again had the response.
In the ninth, Jeremy Jones singled and later scored alongside Chaves on a two-run single by Rodriguez, stretching the lead to 8-5. Rodriguez finished the afternoon 2-for-2 with four RBI, while also scoring once and adding a stolen base. Simon added two RBI, and Jones recorded a pair of hits and a run scored. Chaves reached base three times and scored twice as Pierce totaled 10 hits in the win.
On the mound, Hunter Zanki earned the win to improve to 4-3 after striking out six over 5.1 innings. Allen Olmos followed with two innings of relief, and Brayden Briscoe closed out the game by recording the final four outs and allowing just one hit.
The Brahmas will look to keep the streak going when the series continues at home Thursday.
